Data Analyst

Job description

We live a world where the future of democracy is no longer assured, and the power and opacity of corporations threatens to undermine society. If you want to make a difference, want to make sure that fundamental rights and democratic values are maintained, join OpenCorporates, the largest open database of companies in the world.

We are looking for a talented data analyst in the London area to join us and help us continue OpenCorporates’ important mission. We have over 200 data feeds to keep running smoothly, and we are continuously expanding the range and scope of data we collect. You can read more about the impact we have, and the data side of things, on our blog.

About us

OpenCorporates is the largest open database of companies and company data in the world, with in excess of 160 million companies from over 130 jurisdictions. Our primary goal is to make information on companies more usable and more widely available for public benefit, particularly to tackle the use of companies for criminal or anti-social purposes, for example corruption, money laundering and organised crime.

Our customers include the likes of Mastercard, PwC, CapitalOne and Factset. By charging commercial users for proprietary access to the structured data, we can make all our data available for free to journalists, NGOs and academics via our website and API. As an example, OpenCorporates data was used as part of the Panama Papers investigation by the ICIJ.

What you'll be doing

  • Support & expand our data pipeline. You'll carry out data analysis for new or improved data feeds, and help solve problems with our existing feeds
  • Analyse data sources. You'll learn how to make sense of complex data sources such as company registers, and understand their issues and data
  • Provide great service. You'll ensure our clients and users receive quality and timely data or answers to queries, and help keep our automated data feeds running smoothly
  • Help us improve the way we work. You'll suggest ways to make our processes more efficient, and help keep the quality of our data high

Benefits

  • 26 days holiday (plus public holidays)
  • Pension
  • We always accommodate any requests for book/training/conference/etc expenditure

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have a valid UK work permit, and be based in the London area. Strictly no recruitment agencies.

Location

  • Full time, based at our amazing offices in the Old Street/Hoxton/Silicon Roundabout area of London

Requirements

You will either have 2 years of experience with data in a data analyst role, or a recent IT degree majoring in databases, ETL or development languages.

Above all we are looking for smart people who we think will fit in well. During the interview process you should be able to demonstrate that:

  • You know data. Our product is data – arranging it, linking it, making it accessible – so you should enjoy dealing with it, including handling complex concepts, managing big datasets and knowing how to keep it high quality.
